I buy a new pc! I would like to copy all the programs and data from the old pc to the new one, and keep everything intact. Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Pedro Pico

For the programs, no. Every last one of them will need to be reinstalled.

As for your "data ", only you know where it is. Just back it up and recopy it.

But, a useful hint, have your old drive installed as a slave in your new PC. Then, anytime in the future you can go back and recover something that you forgot. Plus, you can now use Explorer and just drag/drop the files into their new home.

I have my old Windows 98 disk installed on my XP box, and have gone back a few times for files that I had forgotten about.

I agree with WhitPhil on the programs, but you can use Windows XP's File & Settings Transfer wizzard to export (data) files & settings from the old PC to the new one. Read more here: File and Settings Transfer Wizard

You can try PC Relocator which can be found in www.eisenworld.com.
    Good luck!

The only maybe with this migrating is if you have a RETAIL version of Windows. You can try to clone the old drive to the new computer and run a repair installation.

But if you're doing something like an old Compaq to a new HP, probably not.
