In looking to clean out unnessary files I noticed:
    VTS-01_1.VOB, VTS-01_2.VOB, VTS-01_3.VOB, VTS-01_4.VOB, VTS-01_5.VOB and VTS-02_1.VOB - all under local settings/application data/microsoft/CD Burning. These total about 5 GB. What are they - can they be deleted?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

    Hi Charlie,

    File Extension Details for .VOB

I'm speculating here but have You dragged and dropped files to the CD-burner? If so, Windows XP will cache these files until burned or deleted. Check the CD-burner in Windows Explorer to see if any files are waiting to get processed. If so, delete them.

    HTH,
    Christer

Go over this step - I'm not getting it.

I was getting a message - that there were files waiting to be copied - but not lately. I never saw what these files were. It's possible I canceled out a few Direct CD sessions and never knew I had files cached. Is there a way to read these VOB files to identify them?

    Thanks Christer

Don't know why - but these files are gone. I ran a Norton AV scan , Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware.
Anyway - I can't find them with any search parameters.

    Thanks Christer :)

    Hello charlie,

Don't know why - but these files are gone.

Because they got deleted on reboot. XP will clear them out unless something is wrong.

    Regards - Charles

I don't use the XP CD-burner myself but if You open "My documents" (or any other folder), then any file can be dragged 'n' dropped on the CD-burner icon. These files are cached until the user has told XP to execute the burning process.

    From Charles' post:

I have seen at least one computer with files cached for burning and the user being unaware of it. It seems like the "auto clearing" doesn't always work. (I actually didn't know that there was any "auto clearing ".)

    Hello Charlie,

Look at the writeup on XP Cd burning in Help & Support on the Start menu.
    Search for >burn<

If this happens to you again: From item 5 in the documetation " To copy files and folders to a CD ":

In My Computer, double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. Verify that the files and folders that you intend to copy to the CD appear under Files Ready to be Written to the CD

If there are any files hanging around, should show up.

    Regards - Charles
