I've just read the thread from Jan '04 about the pros/cons of using IrfanView as the default app for any/all applications, and I suppose it boils down to just personal preference.
When I installed IrfanView and its plug-ins (this morning), I clicked on "check all" and made it my default for everything - primarily because other than jpg, gif, wav, mpg, avi and bmp, I don't have a clue what all the other things are.
If anyone has actually had problems using IrfanView (in practice, as opposed to just in theory!) as their default, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Just a follow-up, in case anyone is curious.
I've been using IrfanView as my default for everything for over a month now, and the only thing I've chosen to "undo" in that time is the program I use for mp3s. For those, I reverted to Windows Media Player, because I like its "media library" feature. If I were a conoisseur of all high-tech stuff, I'm sure I'd have other preferences for specific applications - but for someone who essentially just putzes around on the computer doing email and browsing the internet, IrfanView seems to meet my needs just fine.
