    Hi
Long story short....Had problems with my scanner and had to delete software manually, with some Registry deletes.
Now when I reboot it goes to the log in page and I have to click on "Owner" to get to windows desk top.
Can anyone tell me how I can stop this so it will boot straight to my desk top again?
    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi
I checked my user accounts and I have two.
    Owner
    and
    ASP.NET Machine A...

Should this ASP one be there? This is a home PC with only one account...Mine.
After doing a search I see that it has to do with Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1

    Thanks for any help here.

    Geri,

Start > Run > type in control userpasswords2 and in the User Accounts dialogue box uncheck ' Users must enter a User Name ....'

More info How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows

    Presumably you have .Net installed?

    Hi Pete
I don't remember installing .NET, I downloaded Framework 1.1 as a windows update.
Can you tell me any reasons that I might have installed it for? And why would it have a user account on my PC?
    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi Pete
    Did the user account.
Now I get a window that says...Can not log you on because of a user restriction, Click OK, and it still goes to my "Owner" log on page.
There are three entries in the user control....
    Administrator.....Administrators
    ASPNET......Users
    Owner......Administrators

The Administrator....Administrator is the "Can not log you on because of a user restriction "
Can I delete this one? and the ASPNET one? and still have access to my computer with the "owner" one? Last thing I want to do is lock myself out of my own computer
I just don't understand why there are 3 in the user account when there is just me using this computer?

Don't even think of deleting the Administrator account - this and the Owner Account are the two basic accounts of Windows. Why two - generally the owner account will not be part of the Administrators group and will have less privileges, but when XP is installed you are prompted for at least one user name - I guess your PC came with XP pre-installed, hence 'Owner' and hence Admin privileges by default it would seem.

User accounts are not my strong point as I am a single user, but if you right click My Computer icon > Manage > Groups and Users you will see that there are additional accounts that you are not aware of, even if the Guest account is turned off. I have an Administrator account and my own account which is part of the Administrators group.

I would leave well alone until somebody more knowledgeable than I on these matters posts - or start another thread specifically on the 3 user accounts theme.
