    My W2k will not boot..

giving message missing pafefile.sys or pagfile too small..

then gave instruction to go into "my computer" properties to increase pagefile.

HOWEVER, I cannot even start up W2k to do that.

Is there a way to create pagefile from DOS?

    tya for any help

Try it in Safe Mode. If you get into Windows, check to see how much free space you have on your HD. It sounds like the pagefile is having trouble breathing due to being crowded. It could well be that you have set a "Fixed" size pagefile and it isn't able to find that much space. In that case the answer may be to reduce the size rather than increase it as the error message indicates.

    No.

    Thanks.

It still has 5GB of free space on the boot partition.

I will try the safe mode and see if it will boot.

If not you may simply have a corrupted pagefile. Not a major problem since if you delete it, a new and good one should be created at boot time. Minor problem in that you really can't normally get rid of the file with Windows loaded.

Set your BIOS to boot from CD as the first option then boot from your 2K CD.

    After that, complete instructions Here

Surprised nobody suggested checking the pagefile settings in Windows.

Go to Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance (section)-Click on the Settings button

Then go to Advanced tab- Virtual Memory and hit the Change button

Best thing to do is use System Managed Size and hit the Set button. Windows shouldnt short change itself. You then need to restart. Of course you can set it for your own size. It shouldnt be smaller than twice your RAM size as a rule.
