1 admin user and 1 limited user on XP home. Would like to know how to deny access to whole drive (D:) . I know it can be done, a friend of mine is setup like that, the kids account can`t access the D: drive, it says something like when you try to open "system restore information ". How would I do that?

    Thanks

benoui - Welcome to the Board :)

I'm running Pro and things are a little different from Home re. security matters, but try this ....

In Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View and uncheck 'Use simple file sharing'.

Then right click on the drive in question > Properties > Security - add your limited user if not already there and with that user highlighted set permissions.
    Suggest Deny everything.

Simple file sharing can't be disabled in XP Home but there is another approach.

Right click on My Computer, left click on Manage (or go to Control Panel>Administartive Tools>Computer Management). Expand the "Removable Storage" tree and then expand the "Libraries" tree. The CD drive should be listed there. Right click on the drive, go to Properties then to the Security tab.. In the list, select the limited account's user group and check the appropriate boxes in the bottom pane, click OK to save any changes made.

I failed to mention that the D drive is a partition of my HD. It is obviously not a removable drive so there must be a different solution. I can`t see any security tab when I right click on the drive and go to properties.

The instructions Miz gave will work fine on a Hd partition. The problem is with XP-home not liking to show security options.

You will need to boot into safe mode and log on with the Administrator account. You will then have the security tabs and features available.
