When trying to open local files, I get the error message "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX cotrols on thsi page "

    I'm running WindowsXP Pro SP1 with IE 6 SP1

This problem started after installing SP2 (and removing - couldn't get it to work with Verizon DSL)

I tried registering core DLLs, and reinstalling IE 6 SP1

To get around the problem, I can edit the registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
    Settings\Zones\0
By changing the data value from 65536 to 0, I can use local pages (ie Install CDs, Norton Antivirus)

The registry key reverts to 65536 after reboot. I'd like to keep this from happening. Is there an associated key that needs to be changed?

    TIA

Interesting that SP2 and your DSL didn't want to play nice. What modem connection do you have (wired ethernet, wireless, USB, what)?

Did you run through all the appropriate steps from This Microsoft article? SFC /scannow especially?

    Tried that, too

    Newt,

I tried the sfc /scannow, and interestingly it asked for the original WindowsXP Pro CD, not the CD from which SP1 was installed.

On the first attempt of registering DLLs the rsabase.dll file was missing, and the urlmon.dll file must have been left over from SP2 (the file date stamp was in 2004, not 2002 like the others) Both of these were corrected after the reinstal of IE 5 SP1.

BTW, I'm using the USB port for the Westell 2200, and I'm running Zone Alarm Pro and Norton AntiVirus from System Works 2002. I update the virus defs almost on a daily basis.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
