Can WXP Pro be configured as a DHCP server? I tried looking thru "Start --> Help ", but could not find on anything regarding WXP Pro being able act as a DHCP server. Did I miss something? Is there info somewhere else?

    Thanks,

    Richard

Thanks. I did find a freeware DHCP server at Tucows, but I just wanted to make sure Windows XP Pro did not have it before I tried something else.

Well, sort of. The Internet Connection Sharing uses DHCP served out to all other computers sharing the connection. But this is not a real DHCP server that is configurable as a router or standalone server is.

Yes, I know about the DHCP "server" with ICS. I use it in my home network which has W98 PCs. I always thought ICS was pretty easier to setup. I'm taking class, and the classroom PCs are running XP Pro. I had configured ICS once before in the class rather easily, but the PC I was using in my lab last Friday night just would not configure ICS :( Of course, that is for another posting :)

In your classrom, you'd be better off w/ a cheapo dsl/cable router such as linksys befsr41 4 port router. You can use hubs with it to network up to about 250 computers that receive the dynamic ips from it.
