    Hi
Could anyone recommend any back up software that does the same job as the Gigabyte utility disk. If I boot from the disk I get an option to execute a back up utility or a restore utility (obviously from a back up previously made). Unfortunately this disk doesnt work with non gigabyte motherboards.
    thanks
    Steve

No idea exactly what the Gigabyte utility disk is supposed to back up but there is plenty out there to do pretty much any flavor (oops, flavour where you live :) ) of backup.

Do you want an exact image or only to back up certain files?

Do you want to store your backups on CD, tape, vacent hard drive space, other?

Paul - to my everlasting shame I am a mod on a Brit fishing forum so I've been forced to notice the words that some foreign folk spell strangely. :D

Even worse than spelling is the odd use of other items like writing 2,300 as 2.300 (most odd) and the fact that quantities aren't the same US vs. otherplaces like gallons, millions, and other assorted values.

It boggles my mind. It really, really does. And I'm too dang old to be boggled.

The gigabyte utility disk boots up and backs up your whole system before windows loads. The reason I want something like this is I build computers for family, friends and colleagues who, despite my instructions on spyware and viruses, manage to f**k up their computer at an early stage and then expect me to clean up the mess. As I do them a favour at cost I am getting fed up with it, but cant seem to say no. If I can put the computer back to how it was when it left me when there was only a couple of gig of data on it, then I would consider my obligations complete. I heard of a program called xclone that does something similar but I dont think it works with xp. I dont like using the windows restore feature either because of viruses.
    thanks
    Steve

No wonder that spacecraft dissappeared as it entered orbit around Mars a year or two ago, when there was confusion regarding the use of imperial and metric measurements.

Acronis and send a restore CD home with them along with typed instructions for the restore and a disclaimer that they are on their own.

Acronis would seem to do the job.

I believe it was George Bernard Shaw who observed that "England and America are two countries divided by a common language ".

I think the usage difference that amuses me most is how we refer to corporations ... Americans refer to them in the singular (Microsoft is controlled by demonic forces :D), but the Brits use the plural (Microsoft are ...).

And, whoever coined the phrase "a pint's a pound the world around" obviously wasn't British!
