I have set up a "restricted " user account on my home system for those that continually load **** on the system. I have tried to find the settings that will allow the restricted user to log on to my dial-up ISP, but have had no luck. This is a single system with no network. How can I enable IE dial-up on the restricted account? Is this possible with "restricted" user?

When you created you dial-up networking connection, you should have been asked if you would like this to be for only the current user or for all users of that workstation. Specifying the connection for all users should get you going.

You may have a problem in that your dial-up connection may have been created autimatically by your ISP's setup program. In that case, you have two options:

    • Log on as the "restricted" user and manually create the dial-up connection.
    • Log on as the "restricted" user and use the "Run as" feature to run the install of your ISP's software using a non-restricted account (i.e. local Administrator).

I tried the first method, but as a restricted user, there is no ability to set up the IE explorer configurations. I even changed the resticted user to administrator, set up the dial-up, and was able to log on. When I switched the status of the user back to restricted, I lost my ability to connect, and the properties I had set up as administrator were gone.

I will try the "run as" feature you mention tonight when I get home. This is one I did not know about.

    Thanks

    Steve
