Hi all: Followed directions on Windows-Help.NET, but getting an error message, see attached. Also, it seems to be uploading the files to drive G, I'm not sure why it would do that.

Per this error message, How do I direct cmd where to (I guess) store the files? And, what am I doing wrong.

I am using my original retail XP Home CD that does not have SP1.

    Thanks, Martin

Hey Biday: Got it, did it, now have slipstreamed XP Home with service pack 2. :D

Sure was a lot easier that way. Booted machine from the newly burned CD, started the Windows install program. Only problem, I was thinking of doing a repair install, but install program could not find prior version of XP. Normally, I'm booting from a drive attached to on board raid controller, not in an array, just using as an ATAPI IDE drive.

I sure wish I could figure out how to have the install program find current installation.

Maybe later or tomorrow I'll post the problem, somebody might know how to fix this.

But, thanks a million for the link, sure made it easier. :D

Guys....I tried using that Autostreamer (great idea!), but I can't figure out how it works. I want to get XP combined with SP2 in case I have future problems (my PC has SP2 in it via download, but I also have the SP2 CD).

I assume I want a custom install (or do I? what's custom? I have a plain vanilla desktop system). I then put in my XP CD, and Autostream read my disk and filled out the Build #, etc. But then what? Do I take out the XP CD and insert the SP2 CD? Or can it use the SP2 files already on my system? If I insert the SP2 CD, the Autostream folder opens...not very useful. I then went back to My Computer, and opened the SP2 disk...there are about 6 files listed. I chose the .exe file, hit "open" and the disk spun for about a minute....a build # for that was then entered. I then removed that CD, went to Next, and got a message that something was incomplete....was I supposed to open all 6 files? Anyway, I can't find any specific instructions anyplace. Any help appreciated...thnx

What always worked for me was the guide on tackteck.com. They keep it updated too.

    Eck...for whatever reason, tacktech.com apparently doesn't offer/discuss Autostreamer.

Maggie...many thanks, you're showing the sort of thing I have looked for, but it's total nonsense (and I'm not a newbie!). How do I get the second screen to look like that? My CD-ROM is D:, my burner is E:. So where does the XP CD go? I have to put it in E: to get that screen. And where does the input in D: come from? And where/when do I put the blank CD? Or does this just copy to the C: drive and I burn from there? I thought the end result was supposed to be a new CD that combined XP and SP2. This stuff must be written by someone who has ESL!

Open and explore the SP2 CD and then copy the SP2 file into a folder on your C or whatever drive. I slipstreamed the network download but have been following that thread for monthes!! I also extracted autostreamer into its own folder then ran it I had a problem when I tried to run it from the download folder. I kept everything on a short path so it was all on the C drive. I used EZcD5 basic so I just rightclicked the ISO and made a bootable CD using "disc at once" not the other one it won't boot. Also make sure there is nothing you want to save in the Temp Folder Autostreamer will wipe it when it is done slipstreaming.

Guess I didn't explain everything. Autostreamer will make the ISO on your HD so where you put the XP CD doesn't matter. You will be removing the CD to burn the ISO on a CDR.
I did mine on my laptop because I don't know how to do it with CDExtreme. I have two SCSI cdrw's on the desktop so it would have been nice to use one of them. I might have to buy Nero Or EZCD and put it on my desktop.
