    1. My computer is a window 2000 pro. First I converted one drive(C:) from fat32 to ntfs with "convert C: /FS:NTFS ". This is done.

    2. Then, I tried again on the same computer, to convert drive I: using the same command. But I got the error "convert not regconized as an internal or external.... ".

    Please explain why?

That message is common when the path statement isn't sufficient for the system to locate the command you are running.

Are you running the command from the C: prompt. That should work but just to make sure type PATH and press enter. Take a look at what it says. If it worked from the C: prompt the other time, it should do so again, regardless of what drive you designate.

Perhaps you are trying to run the command from the I: prompt and that may be why the path command isn't working for you.

Try running CONVERT I: /FS:NTFS from a C: command prompt, assuming your hard drive is the I: drive.

I'm a little in the dark as to why your drive is designated I: but perhaps you can explain.

    It worked.

    1. The message is common, as you mentioned, only if 'convert' is a third party software. But it is a system software so window 2000 should be able to find it w/o the env path. At least, it is how I interprete it.

    2. In fact, I turned off the computer and took a few hours break. When I came back and the command worked this time. Don't ask me why.

    3. I have drive C(system files and folders), drive H(applications), and drive I(shared folders). All 3 in the same physical hard drive. However, in window 2000 they are all named/called 'drive'.
