I run Windows 2000 Pro (fully up to date with all MS patches) on my computer. In recent days all of a sudden when I press start and choose programs all the menu items show :( - fully listed. It used to show just those recently (?) used ones.

On my son's account (which is just a std user, not Admin like mine) all works fine :) - only if he clicks on the double down arrows at the bottom does the whole menu list show.

I cannot figure out what switch I must have changed on my account to cause the menu to show everything. It is rather big so I'd love to be able to fix it.

Anyone have an idea how to restore the old behaviour on my account?

Personalized Menus shortens the All Programs menus by hiding items you haven't used recently, while keeping all of your programs accessible.

You gain access to hidden programs by clicking the double down arrows at the bottom of the menu that is shortened.

    To turn on Personalized Menus

Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties.

On the Start Menu tab, click Classic Start menu, and then click Customize.

Under Advanced Start Menu Options, select the Use Personalized Menus check box.

=====>>> Note for XP users! <<<=====

Using Windows XP you can only enable this feature with the start menu in Classic View.

Personalized Menus is not available when using the new (Default) Windows XP style Start menu

    Thanks!

Should have seen that (un-)ticked box - all working as I want now.

    Thanks for the reply.
