Admittedly --- I am a rank beginner, so maybe I have missed something.

I have a web address on my computer that I cannot get rid of.

I start to type www.nytimes, and this site for some pornstar comes up. Ok, yeah, a friend of mine typed it in and said that I had to see it, and yeah, she was cute, but I don;t really want that stuff hanging around on my computer.

I have ran Ad-Aware, ran an Avast! virus check, deleted the Temp Internet Files, deleted cookies, deleted files, cleared the history...even defragmented.

I don't really want to turn off Auto Complete, but that may be my last option. Is there something that I am missing?

    Thanks!

    cheung3_16 - Welcome to the Board :)

An alternative to turning off Autocomplete - temporarily, which may solve your problem ....

Start > Run > type in regedit > OK

In Regedit - Edit > Find and type in enough of that addess to identify it, i.e. www.xxxxxxx where xxxxxx is the second word of the address > Find Next.

F3 continues the search through the registry - when/if you see that address delete the entry.

If you are not happy in the Registry you will have to resort to turning off Autocomplete temporarily (best to close IE and reopen it after turning it off - then turn it back on) or running an Internet cleanup program such as Steganos Internet Trace Destructor.

Tools => internet options => clear history then close any browser windows and it should be gone.

If not you may be dealing with a hijack of some sort and in that case, we move this thread to the security section and get some expert help that way.
