    Sometimes we run a file.
I beleive they call them "applets "

We get a message "Your brouser does not support Java "

What can we do about that ?

Open up Internet Explorer's options and go to advanced. Then scroll down and make sure that Java VM and scripting are enabled. If you don't see those options, you need to download the Java VM. I suggest Sun's as it's not as insecure as Microsoft's.

jbarker--You can get Sun's Java here
    http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp
MS used to offer MS Virtual Machine, which was their version of Java. But after the original WinXP, it was no longer offered, unless you already had it on your PC (in which case you could get updates from Windows Update). But you can still get it here.

Some people like one and some the other. I do not think you can run both at once.
I think the Sun Version is more up to date, but if you ever hit a site that says you need the MS version, you can download it from the above site.

It's actually a very good idea to have both Sun's Java and MS Java installed. Applications will default to whichever they require, and your browser will use Sun's if it is enabled under the Browser tab in the Java applet in Control Panel, and Microsoft's will be the default if you uncheck the browser integration box in the Sun applet.

Some games and sites will not work with Sun's, and it's very slow, in any case.

The newest version of Sun Java (version 5) can be downloaded here:

    http://192.18.97.47/ECom/EComTicket...re-1.5.0-oth-JPR:1/jre-1_5_0-windows-i586.exe

I believe the automatic, online installer still installs version 4.

I would not use the MS VM unless you have an application that requires it. The MS VM will eventually be gone. The legal settlement between Sun and Microsoft forced Microsoft to stop distributing the MS VM. I think it will become harder and harder to find the MS VM as time passes.
