    Ramona and/or Westside:

The proper ending to my story trying to install Netscape 7.2 finally and without a doubt ended today.

I paid a computer repair consultant to come in and attempt the installation of NS 7.2 onto my Gateway computer. He and I concluded that either the purchase disc was bad (most unlikely) or that my computer was not capable of handling the installation (very likely). It has a Pentium II chip (233 Mhz) and this is not sufficient. The NS 7.01 easily installs, the NS 7.2 does not. There is an outside chance that Norton System Works is interfering, but that is another unlikely scenario.

Therefore, close this thread and notify Netscape that a 233Mhz chip will not be enough power. They have it listed in the Requirements.

    Thanks much.

    indycolt,

I can run Netscape 7.2, Mozilla 1.7.3, and Firefox 1.0 on an IBM Aptiva, which is 6 years old, Windows 95 OS, has a 166 MHz Cyrix Instead processor, and only 64 MB of SDRAM. Your conclusion would be incorrect.

There is something going on with your system, which you aren't aware of, or don't know about. As I have said before, thousands of people are using this browser with no problem. Too bad I can't make a housecall, as I am certain I could get that application installed, and running in no time at all.

Interesting comments from you, but the consultant and I tried all the suggestions with no sucesss whatsoever and were forced to conclude that my computer did not have the ooomph (Pentium II, 233Mhz, Win98SE, 7 yrs old, Gateway) to handle Netscape 7.2, but handled NS 7.01 with ease.

We just seem to disagree. I think if you could make a housecall you would see the problem and come to a similar conclusion. But thanks for the very extensive help and the sharing of the frustrations with me.
