My WINNT folder has grown to 2.26 GB; contains 15,293 files and 801 folders. Need suggestions on how clear this folder and eliminate all these files.

    Hi RonJim and welcome,

I presume you are running XP Pro.

I run Xp Home and my stats on the Windows folder are - 2.06 gigs - 14,654 files - 556 folders.

So...I think you're doing well. :) Getting rid of Windows files can be risky business. I keep the uninstall files for the hotpatches and service packs deleted. I also dumped the backup files for the service packs as well. So far, no problems by doing so. YMMV

WINNT so you updated from Win2K. XP is a larger OS. Below is a shot of properties on mine - XP-pro with SP2. I could reduce the size by removing the uninstall folders for some patches and hot fixes but since I'm not short on room I opt not to.

I've done the same as suferdude, and I've also turned off System Restore, which is a real disk space hog. I've tried System Restor-ing twice on two PCs (one not my own), and it failed on both (and I tried each of the many restore points on one of them). I see other users have found the same. IMHO, it simply doesn't work, so why waste the disk space?
