Flashing Windows

I am using XP Pro. CPU 800 MHZ,128 Ram,20 GB HD.When connected to AOL I go to my e-mail.When the selected mail is highligted,nothing happens.I can not read any of my mail.If I try to contact AOL I get flashing windows(Microsoft Explorer and File Download).By calling AOL they told me that is a Window issue and my computer might be infected with virus.What is your opinion? Note that I am using now another computer.

I ran all the virus software including SPYWARE,and the ones you selected.No virus found in my computer.AOL did all they can to help.No results.Finally They had to send a report somewhere and let me know the result.
