    Hi,

    Not sure what happed but I was able to create shortcuts on my desktop to direct my browser to various sites. For some reason now when you click on them it takes me to my printer as if I was directing it to print...wierd...the file is just a short cut but I believe it is and url or has an url for a file extension.
    I know you cannot paste a link to the desktop using edit/paste because the word Past is grayed out when you try to. Anything would be appreciate. Thanks and Have a great day!!! :confused:

    Try this .....

    In Internet Explorer highlight the web address in the Address Bar, right click > Copy.

    Go to your Desktop and right click > New > Shortcut and paste the link into the location of the item window > next and type in a name ...

    Alternatively just type in the URL.

    Check out your existing URL shortcuts on the desktop - Right click > Properties and check out the command line - should be the URL you require.

    If you right click on one of the shortcuts is Print in bold letters? If so, it sounds as though the default action got messed up some how. To fix it try opening windows explorer, click tools>folder options>file types. In the file types column, scroll to internet shortcut. Click on it once and then click the advanced button. Click once on Open so it's highlighted and then click the set default button.

    The thing is this. When I right click the shortcut on my desktop and show properties I am getting different results as I was before...there is no command line listed any more....?????????? :confused: There is only the General tab....used to list the shortcut tab also.....but its gone....

    You won't see Print in the properties. When you right click on the file, in the menu that appears where you see Properties, you should also see Open, Print, Make Available Offline etc. Open should be in bold letters. If not, you should be able to fix it in the way that I mentioned before.

    tabs

    Ok,

    Typing assoc.url at the command prompt comes back with
    url=internetshortcut.

    The Open in the right click menu of the shortcut is bolded.

    When I right click on the desktop web url shortcut and select properties
    there is only one tab at the top of the window called general...before I had a 2nd tab ( I beleive it was named "shortcut ") .....not sure why now I am only seeing the General Tab. Now I cannot paste the Address line I have copied from my browser...

    When you right click a Web page and select "Create Shortcut" and it says "Cannot Create Shortcut Here, a Shortcut will be placed on your Desktop" - How does that Shortcut work? Try it by right clicking this post and selecting "Create Shortcut. "
