    Hi,

    I am running Win Me , AMD K6-2w/3DNOW 550megs cpu, 120megs memory.
I have just installed a broadband modem from Wanadoo, the problem is when booting with the modem pluged in the USB port the system freezes on the first screen and goes black. I then have to unplug the Modem from the Usb port, press reset and start in safe mode, when up and running then restart to full working system (without modem connected) then connect the modem to the USB socket wait 2 mins and Hey presto everything is ok.
This is a pain!!! can someone help out here as to why No boot with modem connected.
    Thanks for any help.

    Neil..............

Check your BIOS settings and disable "legacy USB support" or anything similar in terminology.

Can you skirt the issue by plugging it into your NIC? Also consider that the modem may be defective. Call your ISP??

    Hi,
No Modem is fine because I tried it in my other system. Not sure about what you mean with NIC.

Could be your USB modem is not ME compatible. Chekc the website for your modem and see if they have drivers/software for it in ME. If they do it will be, if not probably wont be.

Also could be that your USB port is faulty, try another USB device in the same port.

And may also be your modem requires USB2 ports and your PC wont have them judging by your description of it. If it turns out to be the case, you can buy USB2 cards for your PC.

And sure, your modem may also be faulty, if possible try another.

    Hi,
The Modem is compatible, the USB port is working ok and the Modem works fine on an other system and on this system when it is pluged in after the system has fully booted. So am back where i started.

A NIC is a network card, your internet connection will be smoother as it can handle the bandwidth better.

Sorry for the delay, but I've only just registered on this forum.

I had the same trouble, although with different hardware.

The remedy was to update the modem drivers.
