I've been running XP SP2 for a few weeks w/ no problem on a Toshiba 1805-series laptop. Now unable to boot (even safe mode) with the following error: winlogon.exe - unable to locate component "This application failed to start because ole32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." MS support site search suggests using recovery console to expand ole32.dll. However, I can't find the Toshiba reinstall CD (OEM XP ver.). I have a new XP CD I was going to use to upgrade my daughter's 98 and used it to boot from CD. When trying to logon the recovery console, I type my XP logon password but it does not accept. I tried using a blank but it does not accept. Tried to use the CD to "fix" XP, it started the process then this error "Setup cannot copy the file msfs.sys ", retry fails.

Can anyone suggest what may be the problem with recovery console password, the failure of the fix, or if I'm just chasing my tail because neither is going to fix my original error anyway?

    copterchief,

Without that disk, or another CD from Toshiba, containing the drivers for your hardware, the laptop won't run satisfactorily when you repair or reinstall; suggest you contact them for a replacement.

I'll dig around a bit more or contact Toshiba

Thanks Newt and Sparrow. I'll look a little harder for the reinstall CD. I was kinda hoping mfgr. specific drivers weren't part of the "fix" from the CD but it looks like I'll need to find it or get one from Toshiba. I appreciate your responses.
