Windows XP Pro, and all 32 bit CPUs have a limit of 4GB, how much RAM they can access.

Your problem is likely to be your motherboard doesnt support the 4GB and in this case you are probably unable to do anything about it. In some cases i suppose a BIOS update may overcome this problem, but i havent heard of a BIOS update to overcome design limitations like this.

So it probably isnt Windows fault!

Hi picol and welcome to the forum.

I'm assuming that when you said "use all the 4,096 GB ram " you really meant 4Gb (4096Mb) since I doubt there is a motherboard around that could hold that many memory sticks even if you could afford them.

XP-pro should be able to handle and use 2 processors and 4Gb of memory without any problems or any special setup. Probably good if both CPUs were there when it was loaded though.

    What problems are you having?

    Dear All.
my motherboard is a TYAN Thunder K8QS Pro (S4882) and can use up to 32 gb of RAM.
Windows XP System Information tells me that the RAM memory is 4096 MB, but the disposable physical memory is only 1,92 GB.
    This is the Problem
    Thank you for your help.
    Pietro

I see. So it isnt a motherboard support problem, and Windows XP Pro can handle all your 4GB, so you probably dont have a problem, you are probably reading the System info wrongly.

I am using XP Pro SP2 on my PC

In System Info there is no such item as "Disposable Memory ", only these, which i will explain as i go

Total Physical Memory: (the amount of RAM in your PC)
Available Physical Memory: (the amount of your RAM that is not is use at the time)
Total Virtual Memory: (The amount of your hard disk space set aside for swap file)
Available Virtual Memory: (How much of this hard disk space set aside is not in use at the time)

    Hope this helps
