Microsoft Office 2003. If I open Word, then open a document, the whole process takes only a short time. However, if I click on a Word document on my desktop, it can take up to 40 seconds for the document to finally open. I run SpyBOT, AdAware, McAfee Singer on a regular basis. Use McAfee Antivirus Enterprise 7 and all DATs up to date. I know 40 seconds is not a great deal of time, but comparing the two methods of opening a document leads me to wonder................Why the difference? Any thoughts?

If the documents are really stored in your desktop folder, try moving them elsewhere.

    Word Docs Slow to Load

    Newt,

The same thing happens when clicking them in 'myDocuments' area. I guess I'm not sure where else to move them to try from.

Not as familiar with McAfee, but Nortons Antivirus has an option Enable Office Plugin. This plug-in scans all word and excel docs any time you open them. This adds quite a bit to the time taken to open a document and i usually disable this option. The auto shield will catch it if it is a virus anyway.

Does McAfee have a similar option? Check it out and its something to try....
