I have a window that constantly pops up saying:

prktect has encountered a problem and needs to close. this is in one of the boxes that wants to send an error report to Microsoft. I usually don't send these.

    what is a PRKTECT.EXE-1B7E806A.pf in folder C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch?

there is also an exe file "prktect"

I have tried a virus scan, and rebooting but the box keeps popping up. What is this and how do I get rid of it without damaging my computer? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

ogilthorpe--As JoeHobart has mentioned, there is no data on the Internet for prktect.exe. That is why I suggested using a spyware detector.
Just looking for prktect, there is a pretty weird bunch of references
    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=PRKTECT
However, try right clicking on the prktect.exe file and then properties. Can you learn anything about the purpose or source from the General or Version tabs?
