I don't have ME, but my mom does.

She cant to a Scan disk or a defragmentation...when they are starting to finish, something pops up saying....

'Scan disk (or defrag) cannot complete operation. Some program is running in the background and is written to the C drive'

Or sometihng like that - it isnt exact

Super Mallow--There are all sorts of programs that run in the background without your knowing. You can see some of them by simultaneously clicking Control+Alt+Delete. But there are others such as your screensaver, any scheduled tasks, checking for email, checking for program updates, etc. And they do cause ScanDisk and Defrag to start over again and eventually give up.
Many people say the easiest way is to run ScanDisk and Defrag from Safe Mode. It is a matter of choice. I personally just disable all these "programs" that could run in the background. That includes disabling your connection to the internet.

Super Mallow--It depends on the PC. If you still have the instruction book, it should tell you. Basically it involves a reboot and then holding down either F8 , Control or possible some other key (F2, F12) right at the beginning of the boot. When you find the right key, you should be offered Safe Mode. Your PC will start with no peripherals or unnecessary programs running.
