I recently downloaded Open Office 1.1.3, and just installed it today. Can't seem to find answers to my questions at their FAQ (or anywhere else) on their openoffice.org page, so I'm hoping someone here might be able to help!
When I clicked on the icon of the file I'd downloaded, a new folder called "OOo_1.1.3_Win32Intel_install" was created on my desktop. This folder contains between 400 and 500 files by the name of "f_**** ", the asterisks representing sequential numbers from 0001 to 0407, followed by another series ranging from "f0_001" to "f0_088 ". There were also a setup.exe file, and a couple of readme/licence/setup guide files.
I ran setup.exe, and to the best of my ability to tell, things SEEM pretty much to be working so far.

    My questions:
    1) do I need to keep the whole "OOo_1.1.3_Win32Intel_install" folder that was created, or can I delete all those "f_****" files?
    2) in the Writer program, when I try to use the search/replace feature, I get a message that "The search key was not found" - any idea if there's something I need to activate, or did something just fail in the installation process?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks,
    Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca

As for question number 1, yes, that folder can safely be deleted...

As for question number 2, I have Open Office installed on another machine here which is torn apart at the moment, as soon as I get it back together, I'll take a look and post back..

    Cheers
    Jake

    Rebecca..

Got a chance to look at that. Key not found simply means that the word or expression you are searching for cannot be found in the document you have opened.

    Hope that helps....

    Cheers

    Thanks, Jake!
I had thought the search feature just wasn't working, but after reading your message I tried a couple of "dummy" searches, and sure enough, you were right!
Glad to know I can get rid of that folder, too!
    :)
