I've set up many networks that wouldn't connect through the router to another computer, etc., unless the firewall was shut down. Depending on the software you're using and the configuration, to get past this current problem, I would shut down the firewall and get the network connection up and running and then go back to the firewall. Your router will protect you in the meantime. Also, I've seen many new network/broadband installations that wouldn't let the broadband connection work until one was added in the "Connections" tab. Afterwards, they set there in the "Network Connections" and say "Disconnected" but the broadband then works fine. Worth a try.

ALSO check - For example, on LinkSys routers there is an "Uplink" plug which cannot be used with the plug next to it (1 on some routers and another on others) The two plugs use the same lines so only one can be used at a time. Be sure you don't have that situation on your router.

Did all the above and here is the situation as it currently stands.
I can gain full connectivity using the usb to d-link wireless adapter can brouse and ping without restriction. Using the usb to thernet adapter I can seem to ping but it seems to take a long time(may just be my perception, I have changed the plug iin pint on teh router to address the concerns above) I still am not able to browse and when I attempted to do a download I seemed to have intermittent transmission/reception. I get a alternatly connected/unconnected indication in the trey at the bottom of the screen.
I think the problem is being narrowed down but still do not see the solution here???

    Hi.

That sure does seem to be a hardware problem rather than software. It feels like a bad cable so you're on the right track I think. Also seems like a mismatch between equipment. Maybe the 10/100 is only operating at 10 and the router is pushing at 100. If you have another network card try it. If you have to disable a motherboard onboard network card to try a separate card it would be worth it to try. I'm sure you've gone through most all of these already. Could be a bad network plug-in point on the computer. Trying another card would eliminate that. Feels like the problem is at the computer. If it was mine I would build a brand new connection from the computer out to a known working point on the router. That would include new network plug in place (different card) different slot in the computer and a known working cable. If that doesn't work just go to the movies awhile and enjoy yourself.

I have definitly done that several times on this one. Here is the crux at the moment the disconnect seems to come as I pass the USB it works with the wireless it does not with the belkin direct adapter. I am sure of the cable and router connection point. So if I understand what you said correctly the wireless might be working at the speed the router is and the direct might not? I will check both specs and see if that might be the problem alkthough would have expected the ethernet cable to do faster but may be wrong when connected the ethernet cable indicated connected at 100m. That indicate anything to you?

    Hi.

That 100M is correct and indicates the network connection is synchronized at 100Megs. I have no more substantive suggestions. You might dump all your settings re network and reboot and start again. Don't know what that might accomplish but worth a try. Good luck.
