control panel unusable

ok i am using windows xp and recently my comtrol panel stopped working. i can use it for a little bit and then i get an error. i found that the one point i will always get the error is when i use the back button to go back to the main page. this is a picture of the error and when i called dell they said they couldn't fix it and when i talked to microsoft they said talk to dell.

If not, what about System Restore to a date before the problem started?
Have you installed any new hard/software just before the problem?

 

ok well searching google didn't really help...i think i might've figured out the problem but i'm still not sure. i tried downloading that program u posted but the link is messed up and gave me a php file to download so if you could find a link ot it or something that would help

Mine messed up once because I had upgraded to XPSP1 and didn't update Style XP. Not the same it was error 420 or something like that.

 

The first things that popped into my head when i read his post were:

A corrupt control panel applet in control panel, put there by something he installed recently, uninstalling the offender should fix it.

And i dunno, but am i alone wondering if it may not be adware in the machine affecting explorer, which of course control panel also uses to display itself. Some adware or BHOs, especially search bars attach themselves not only to IE but to Windows Explorer.

Try a scan for adware using Adaware or Spybot. Just to see what happens. I may be wrong. Also a virus scan with up to date virus defs may discover something! All else fails try a repair install of Windows. If you need help on how to, ask.
