What can you do when an install of SP2 causes the hard drive to stop responding? Also, no CD or floppy drive is recognized and no monitor activity? Microsoft has been of no help.

T&S--Are you able to get to the Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs? To uninstall SP2 look under Windows.
Are you able to get to Start|Run? You could type in sfc /scannow , then click OK. Follow directions. You will need your WinXP CD. You can do this from Safe Mode if you are not able to get into normal startup.
    What did MS suggest?
If you really cannot access anything, you probably are going to have to put your Windows CD into the CD-ROM drive and reinstall Windows. You will lose everything on your hard drive, including personal data.

Let me re-emphasize when I say "everything "...... "no CD or floppy drive is recognized and no monitor activity? Microsoft has been of no help ".

In other words, (1) the monitor clicks twice and stays black, (2) no disk drive activity, (3) no floppy drive activity, (4) no zip activity.

He has tried all the obvious. But, thanks anyway.

As for MS, their solutions might work if we could access a drive.......but, nothing they have suggested in the past has worked for me with other problems. Hence, the reason you see me here.
