I installed Firefox and Thunderbird yesterday. Firefox is fine. Thunderbird will receive e-mails but I cannot send. It asks me for the password everytime, despite ticking the box for it to remember it, and then tells me that the SMTP is incorrect. Outlook Express still works perfectly and sends without any problems. What do I do next to sort out Thunderbird?

    Welcome Vivian,

I have found that when something is wrong in Mozilla or Thunderbird that you can't change stuff like SMPT with any success. I have always had to delete the old account and add a new one.

The SMPT you entered may have a small typo in it. Usually it is the same as the pop3. For instance mine is mail.xxxxxxxxxxx.net. You can open OE (I think) and get the SMPT that it is using and copy/paste it to the Thunderbird account setup screen.

    Vivien,
there could be more than one reason. Assuming that you have only one account set up, it is possible that you have accepted the SMTP defaults, which including using name and password, there may be some error. The trickiest thing is when there is more than one account, and if you have checked the username and password of another account. Everything can be solved by making sure that you have the correct smtp in the Advanced button of the Server Settings, or if you require authentication. I have six different accounts, with 12 usernames, and account requires authentication to send e-mail, and have had no problem.

    Successful e-mail in Thunderbird!

Thanks Bill - deleted my account and re-input it again - all works well now!
