    Hello Steve!

My guess is that the harddisk has been formated NTFS which DOS cannot read (or write to).

Create a basic DOS bootdisk (with as little as possible, no CD-ROM drivers and such). The "Dr DOS Disk For Bios Flashing" at BOOTDISK.COM fits the description. The applet will create the bootdisk for You.

Copy the flash program, the new firmware and any other file that is required to the floppy (after making it bootable).

Reboot the computer and when it has booted to the A:> prompt, run the utility from there.

Be careful and read all instructions twice. These operations can go wrong!

    Edited:

I flashed my Samsung Opticals from a DOS floppy. There was the option to do it from within Windows but on several forums, I read recommendations to NOT do it from within Windows. The DOS way is safer with Windows "not aware and not being able to interfere ".

DOS CANNOT read or write to NTFS filesystems, as in XP. You need a special driver or app so that DOS can read/write to NT-XP NTFS file systems.

Here's a free one that can read NTFS from DOS:

spankydata, FYI, next time you need to create a boot disk for flashing some programmable chip you can make one in Windows XP. You'll find the option in the Format screen for the floppy drive. Just put a floppy in the bay, right click the floppy icon and select Format. Then check the box that says "Create an MS-DOS startup disk." It works for me.

Don't be concerned about not being able to see the NTFS formatted drives. You're not working on the HD data when flashing chips anyway.

That doesn't look too legit Stanislav but I must admit it's the largest boot disk I've ever seen.

    Hi.

Sounds like the software to play the dvds isn't quite right. I would concentrate on that area. If the drive took the update then it should be working fine. You might need a codec pack depending on the softare you're using. You might download a different program from Tucows, etc. It would be limited to 30 days or so but it might work ok and point you in the right direction.
