Heres the specs for my new PC, which I hopefully will get around Christmas. I'll be assembling it myself, of course.
    -ASUS P4B-MX
-Intel Celeron (Pentium 4 based) 2.6 GHz 400MHz FSB, 128K Cache - Retail
    -All Components 168 Pin 128M SDRAM PC-133 , 4 chip - OEM
    -Rosewill ATI RADEON 9200SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP-RETAIL

I prefer AMD, but I got the ASUS P4B-MX mobo for $25. All other parts will be from Newegg, except the molex to atx12v adapter, which will be from abccables.com.
This system will be used for light gaming (Day of Defeat, MAYBE DoD:Source and Half Life 2) Photoshop, and internet using none other than: FIREFOX...I'll be using Windows 2000 SP4, and possibly upgrading to XP Pro soon after I finish the build.

What do you guys/gals think? For what I want, is this PC gonna do it? my MB supports all P4 based processors with a 400MHz FSB, so should i upgrade that? I really want to save money, because I also want to buy an Archos Gmini 120 20GB MP3 player.

128 MB RAM seems a bit low. Windows XP would need that to run itself only ...... ...... !
I would opt for 512 MB but maybe that's what You mean by "4 chip ".

Well, by getting the Celeron instead of the true Pentium 4, I saved about $80, so that allows for more RAM. I'll probably get atleast 256MB.

    Hi Aku,

My suggestion would be to concentrate on the motherboard, you can upgrade other hardware as you save the $'s. Asus is a good brand, I have not looked at the specs, but try putting the model number and "review" into a Google search and see if the reviews are OK.

The Asus board may be fussy about RAM, so make sure it will work (or go for 256mb of higher quality now and save for another 256mb, rather than getting 512mb of generic stuff). I think the Asus site has a list of compatible RAM.

Brilliant - my neighbor was going to buy a Mercedes but someone gave him 4 Plymouth tires for $10 - the rest is history.

What are you talking about Rockster? your comparison makes no sense. If you had said:
My neighbor was going to BUILD a Mercedes, but someone gave him a Lexus chassis for $100, so he built a Lexus.
Then it would have made sense.
what I was saying was: I prefer AMD processors, but since I got the ASUS P4B-MX motherboard really cheap, I chose Intel. When I bought the motherboard, I was saving about $75 by going Intel, and it wasn't a very big deal to me. thats why i went with Intel.
Thanks for everyones opinions so far though. I've read good reviews on the motherboard, and I think its pretty much what I need. It has integrated LAN and audio ('ll upgrade the audio), an AGP slot, and a 3GB RAM capacity. Also, I will be doing massive upgrades, maybe even buying a new PC once I get a job in June. I'm not old enough to work in Arizona yet, so this system is based on saved lunch money, and birthday money...:(
    P.S. I AM TAKING DONATIONS!!!!!
