I got this card (Netgear 802.11g Wireless Notebook Card) for my son's (away at school) Compaq Armada 700 mhz notebook, running win2000 pro. with 256 RAM. After installing hardware and card he goes to univ. library, etc and it searches for a connection but never makes one. He plugs in at home and can access internet fine. I've read some of the things about connecting cards but am baffled. Where do you make changes to the WEP and LAN conn. properties, etc.? Can you give it to us step by step? Thanks a bunch.

You may want to check and see if the card supports the 802.11b as well as 802.11a, also what type of wireless network the school has.

For instance, if their network is 802.11b and your son's card will only do 802.11g then he may see there is a network there but there will not be any way for him to ever connect with that card.

Thanks. Will check school's. I thought with a 802.11g that it would work with the b or a?

Some (most) do but some do not. If you have the manual or specs for the card it should tell you.

If that is not the problem, post back and we can gin up a shopping list of stuff you need to check.
