Word shutting down by itself. Office 2000 Pro

I have a HP notebook running Windows XP and have Office 2000 Pro. I have just F-disk the drive and reinstalled everything. When I use Word and start typing a document, during the time of using word, it will just exit out of the program and I would loose everything. It doesn't ask me to save before it exits. I have just the basic pgms on the notebook from the reinstall and Office 2000 Pro and Symantec Internet securities 2005. Nothing else.
How can I fix this.

Sounds like a file or files have been replaced or corrupted. From the help menu click on detect and repair. You will probably need your word 2000 or Office 2000 install CD. Worth updating to office 2000 SP3 as well via office update or download from the MS office site.
