:) I have upgraded from version 7.0 to 7.2 via CD on a Windows 98SE operating system. My problem happens when I go to print-out a page. First the program takes a very long time to find the printer. When it finally does the program starts to become very slow and sluggish and finally lock-up. I have to use ctrl-Alt-Delete to get out of it and re-boot the computer. After rebooting the computer and going to Netscape 7.2 again, Netscape will work find, everything including printing works. I have to go through this sequence each time I want to use Netscape 7.2. I never had any problem with Netscape 7.0. Any help with this issue would be very much appreciated.
    Thank so much

    Welcome to the Forum, Windward!

    Windward,

Does the page you are printing show correctly in Print Preview?
Are you using the most current drivers for your Printer?

Check your Disk Cache setting to ensure it is not set to 0.
    Empty your C:\WINDOWS\temp folder

If you've canceled a print job lately, try this:

    Turn off the printer.
    Unplug the printer
    Unplug the electric cable
    Unplug the connector cable

Leave as is for 5-10 minutes! (this is to let the Printer-memory drain itself)
Reconnect all, (FIRST the connector cable, THEN the electric!)
    Switch on, try again!

If that doesn't work, check that you haven't inadvertantly changed any switch-settings.

    :) Ramona,

Thanks for your suggestions for my problem. The page I'm printing does show correctly in Print Preview. My Disk Cache setting is set at 50. I would assume that my current printer driver is OK since it has been working with NS 7.0. I don't recall having to cancel a print job lately but will try what you have suggested. All switch settings are OK.

It appears that after I leave NS 7.2 and come back the next day and log on again with Quick Launch and start working the program for a few minutes, the program starts to get sluggish and finally crashes when I go to print a page. Most of the time it will crash during printing of e-mail. Again when I re-boot, everything work find until I log out of Netscape and then come back the next day.

I tried the printer disconnect sequence and that didnot work.

    Windward,

Try disabling Quick Launch for a few days and see if the problem recurs. It can be disabled here:
    Edit | Preferences | Advanced

Let us know how it goes...

As a rule, if Print Preview shows the page correctly, the problem is not Netscape's, but we shall see.

    Update

    :) Ramona,
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you with an update to 7.2 lock-up problem. I tried disabelingQuick Start for a couple of days and that didn't work.It then occured to me that maybe I didn't have enough RAM. I have 128Mb, but when I checked it I only had only about 50% available. I then found that I had to many programs running in the background. Switched off most of them which brought memory to 60%. I then installed another 128Mb of RAM. At the moment things seem to be working pretty good. I just installed the new RAM yesterday so I will keep you informed as time goes by.

    Thanks again for your efforts.

You should not have had so much trouble with 7.2. But 256MB RAM is about right. And, it is a good idea to remove programs from the Startup, unless necessary. Only the Windows Explorer and systray, plus antivirus and firewall need to be at the startup. Quick launch is not necessary, and will use juice .
