Recently I started having issues with my computer just restarting by itself
so I decided to reinstall Win XP PRO, big mistake, with 39 minutes to go I got an error: Fatal Error setup unable to retrieve the Product ID because of the following error: RegOpenKeyEX(System\Setup\Pid) return error 2 (2)
can anyone help me stuck right here can't go forward can't go back ?

Welcome to the BBS Rod. :)
I've seen a few references to your problem, on XP and W2K, but no solution. :(

All I can suggest is repartition and reformat the HD again. Check that the install CD is clean and maybe try a different CD drive if you can.

Sorry, someone else may have a more usefull suggestion?
