Well, that question qualifies to be the last in "Who wants to become a millionaire" (or whatever it's called in english)!

I have installed SP2 on several systems and have not seen a trace of trouble but others report problems.

I believe that it is essential to have a system in good (read perfect) condition with no problems. Get rid of temp files, do a virus scan, search for other malware and fix everything. Defragment when finished fixing.

If You are hoping that SP2 will fix a problem or even a nuisance, then fix it before installing SP2.

On a system in good condition, the odds are with You ...... ...... but I didn't say it ...... :p ...... !

    I forgot:

If You are using any kind of imaging software, like Norton Ghost, create an image before doing the deed.

If You rely on System Restore, then clear all restore points and create a new fresh one. (I don't rely on SR myself and don't know if a restore point is of any use after installing SP2 but someone else will probably tell me off if I'm wrong.)

SP2 creates a "before" restore point. Unless something wrong with System Restore, really no need to wipe them out.

To roll back SP2 in case of need, use the Add/Remove SP2 entry, then the Restore point it created. That Add/Remove entry is based on WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$ file which will be about 360 MBs. A month from now, that should be safe to take off.

Yes, it is safe to install SP2. If you take the usual precautions (data backup and/or drive image as suggested by others) you'd be pretty safe in case something would go wrong.

Problems have been reported by around 10-12% of users. If your system is already up-to-date, and doesn't have spyware/malware installed, chances for an uneventful upgrade should be even higher.
