    Programs on your Desktop will only open if you double click on the icon.
    If you right click on an icon do you get the drop down menu ?

    Programs on your desktop? Do you mean shortcuts? All shortcuts or specific shortcut? You mentioned IE are these shortcuts for IE links or addresses? Hourglass indicates your computer is busy. Is it busy trying to open your shortcut or has it put the task of opening the shortcut on the back burner until the other task is done? What happens if you wait for the hourglass to disappear? Does the icon work eventually or do you get an error or popup alert?

    Use the key combination of ctrl/alt/del (all pressed at the same time) to bring up taskman. Does it indicate something is not responding?

    Do you have active desktop and is it enabled, if so disable it.

    Hi colo33,
    Please remember to edit the Topic Title of your thread to something more specific or detailed about your current problem. Don't let the fact that you are receiving responses to your current problem that you overlook Aries instruction. He will wait for a short period of time, to give you a chance to do this and if not complied with the post will be locked downed.

    ====Update=======
    Just noticed that you also have another post referring to a problem with a disk full alert. Until that problem is resolved this one is directly related. You must focus on the disk full problem first. That may well take care of this one. :)

    Exactly as Goddez says, if you dont have enough disk space, programs will not run properly as they need a certain amount of free space on your drive to work with, to use as memory if you dont have enough RAM to run the program, anything else running, and Windows completely in RAM. Most people do not have enough RAM to do this. And some programs also need free space to use for temp files that they need to create to work.
