I am going to install Winamp 5.05 full. There the window prompt in install "Select which icons you want installed and whether you want files and CDs associated with Winamp" There are various selectors:

    Start menu Group,
    Desktop icon,
    Quicklaunch icon,
    system tray icon/agent,
    associate with audio files,
    ...video files,
    ...audio CDs,
    ...video CDs,
    ...with Playlist files

What's better to choose to avoid possible problems with system or other programs?

Just my opinion, but I choose no icons and associate all files with Winamp. If I was to keep an icon, it would be the quick launch icon only. I like to keep my desktop as clean as possible. I have never had a problem with Winamp and other programs. Of course I only use one player on each system. If you use another player as your main one, you may want to skip the associations.

Quicklaunch icon is Shortcut icon? If so, what's Desktop icon purpose?
What purpose of Start menu Group, system tray icon/agent?

The Quicklaunch icon is a shortcut found just to the right of the start button. The Desktop icon will be found on your screen where the My Computer and Recycle Bin icons are. Some people like the large icon. My self, I like to have as few icons as possible covering my wallpaper. Not positive on the Start Menu Group. I assume it adds an icon to the Start Menu on the top part of the left side (when you click the start button). The system tray icon I associate with programs that start up when the computer is started. These programs run all the time. Since I do not use Winamp all the time, I see no need to have it running all the time.

You could always put the icons on and then delete later if you decide not to use them.
