    Hello,

This is my first post here, so please have patience. I have a network client that is using Netscape 7.1 for mail. Two users report problems with the sent mail folder. Mail is sent properly and arrives at its destination, however, since July that no sent mail is saved in the Sent folder.

I checked the preferences and indeed, the setting is there to save outgoing messages to the Sent folder. I even went a step ahead and created a new folder called Sent Messages and told Netscape to save there. Still nothing.

What is most frustrating is that the preferences revert themselves back to the Sent folder even though I change it to Sent Messages. It just goes back and saves nothing.

I think they should just use Outlook or something more reliable, but I would hate for them to lose their email that they have sent.

Any suggestions? Thank you all in advance.

    Welcome to the Forum, edentone!

    edentone,

If your client has a backup of the prefs.js file from before the problem began, then have them replace the existing pref.js file with the backup.

If your client is using McAfee SpamKiller, then this might be the problem. This is a bug in Netscape 7.1: Mozilla doesnt save the " Copies and Folders " page in the " Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings. It could be overriding the Preferrences, or perhaps the AntiVirus program the client uses could also be doing the same.

If this is not the case, then you might try this fix which was reported on the Netscape Newsgroup:

Create a new mail account, and put in the server settings for the problem mail account. (In the mail window, EDIT, MAIL & NEWSGROUP ACCOUNT SETTINGS, then the button at the bottom left "Add Account ".. follow the wizard and hit Okay)

Copy the Local directory path from the problem mail account into the new account (EDIT, MAIL & NEWSGROUP ACCOUNT SETTINGS |Server Settings) The Local directory box is at the very bottom. Copy all of what was in that field (right click in box, select all, ctrl + C) and paste it into the Local directory field ( "server Settings" under the NEW account.. right-click inside the field, select all, then ctrl + V to paste).

    HTH,

    Help Same problem

On 10/29 I changed my email address and therefore changed my account settings. This seemed to coincide with my sent mail no longer being retained. In addition any email sent with an attachment is not being sent at all.

I decided to upgrade to 7.2 to see if that would solve the problems but it has had no effect. Like the initial post whenever I go into the account settings and try and save or change the retentions settings these are not recorded.

Is the fix for 7.2 likely to be the same as Ramona's suggestion above?

    Thanks

This is not a known fact to most people. I say this because almost everyone thinks that upgrading and/or reinstalling the program will fix a problem which is located in the Profile, which is not uninstalled nor replaced. Your problem is not even a problem, since the accounts settings were changed. If you have not done that , make sure that you have entered the new setting in the Outgoing server setup in your Mail Account settings. And use the new setting as default. You may want to click on the Advanced button, and remove the old setting. You must have had the old setting as default. As for the attachments it may tied to the same issue.
