Actually it is not very straight forward

Yes, that's the page. I've downloaded and saved it to a file. But when I try to install it, it will not install. It asks for a program to open it and I've no idea what program to use (and yes, I have software installation enabled). I noticed from the page you gave me, Westside, that several others could not install it as well so it is not as straight forward as it should be. Anyway, I'll try and install it again and report back.

Nope. I cannot install this file for the Home button (along with many others apparently). The file is Home.xpi and Windows says it cannot open this file since it does not know which program created it. This is NOT straight forward, Westside. It's convoluted and it is NOT something that Netscape would have tolerated. Netscape came COMPLETE and not piece-meal like this. To get Mozilla to look and act like Netscape, you have to have a bit of the geek in you. I'm not very computer savvy and this is yet another reason why Mozilla does not particularly appeal to me.

    tabbed browsing as well...

    And another thing.

    1. Why is it that tabbed browsing is different? I go to View to show the tab bar but it is greyed out. The only way I can get this to show for the current session is to Ctrl T this but I want it to remain. It remained in Netscape but not in Mozilla. Why not?

    2. You say the Netscape toolbar has no social redeeming values. That is your opinion once again, Westside. You're entitled to it but that's all it is... an opinion with which I disagree. I liked the weather and news links which are not available in the Google toolbar.

    3. And Netsape added a mail icon to the quick launch... something Mozilla has not done. The only way I can access mail (from the get go) is to open the browser. Now I know that I can add a short cut for the mail to the desktop and then drag it to the quick launch but this is yet another example of the clunkiness of this browser compared to Netscape. Netscape was/is polished and ready to use right out of the box without scouring around trying to find this plug-in and that extension to MAKE Mozilla have the features Netscape comes with automatically.

It sounds like you don't have a file association set up for .xpi

Select the other button you see in the "windows does not know...." popup. A new popup should open up with mozilla as one of the programs to use. Select it and mozilla will open the .xpi file and install it.

Also right click on the quick launch and select mail and newsgroups for opening just mail.

There is a check box in prefs>Navigator for putting the Home button on the tool bar. While you are there you can select a homepage of your own. Also under Navigator>Tabbed Browsing you can uncheck the one for hiding the tab bar when only one is open. With this way you can right click on the tab bar and select new tab to open another.

Maybe a little quality time with your prefs will solve your problems? :)

Thanks, Bmoore1129. That little trick helped and the Home button is firmly in place.

I was also able to follow your directions in the Preferences. Thanks for taking the time to help me. I feel like a dolt. :(

That's a wise suggestion. Very few people take the time to get acquainted with their new friend (before it becomes the enemy).

You go Bill! When getting acquainted with a new application, such as Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox, or Thunderbird, we are all in "Learning Mode ". I'm new to Firefox and Thunderbird too, so I'm including my very own self...

The Mozilla Knowledge Base has loads of information on the Mozilla, Firefox, and Thunderbird applications. Add it to your Bookmarks: http://kb.mozillazine.org/

    joeskys,

Goodness yes you are missing out on much more. Netscape 7.2, Mozilla 1.7.3 and Firefox 1.0 RC 1 all have the Bayesian Mail Filter, which is the crème de la crème of Spam filters.

You are also missing out on tabbed browsing, whereby your can open numerous tabs in one window rather than opening numerous windows. Saves on resources.

Popup blocker is the best! No third-party software necessary, saves disk space.

Numerous security updates, since Version 7.0. Read the Release Notes for Netscape 7.0 - 7.2: http://wp.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/ns7/relnotes/7.html
The "What's New" sections will give you an idea of the changes since Netscape 7.0.
