    I just got a web camera. A Creative PC-CAM 600.

I want to record short video's to email. As I am on a dial-up connection I'd like to keep these files under 2MB. (I know they can only be 10 - 15 seconds long.)
The camera settings for recording have something called "Video Compressor" and the popup window has over a dozen different settings. I've tried a number of them with different 'quality' settings but have not come to a decision as to which is best.

    Does anyone have an opinion?

If I have not included enough information please let me know.

Well I discovered that there is also an audio compressor setting with another dozen or so options. I blindly picked one and it drastically reduced the size of the file. I'd still like to find some reference source that will explain to me what each of these settings are. Can anyone point me in the correct direction?

    Hello mrcoons,
What program are you using to capture from your camera? The different formats will offer different resolutions and degrees of compression. The more you compress and the lower the resolution you use, the smaller the file size. Also the quality is reduced.

    Post back !! ;)

I am using Creative's software called PC-Cam Center.

I opened a support ticket to Creative to see if they could point me to some documentation that they have hidden some where (cause I've looked everywhere I can find) that will help me.

I'll make note of the names of the types of compression that I'm talking about and post them back in a while.

    Mark

OK Mark. Here is a site I think might help you www.vcdhelp.com.
I looked for documentation on Creative's website and also could find nothing. Generally the companies will provide you with help so the ticket is a good idea. I do some video capture using a firewire but my experiance is not extensive. I'm sure you can find some basic settings for your application at vcdhelp or if not, you can post to one of their forums and get help much like here but more specific to video and capture.

Good luck but if you still need help post back and I will try to help more.

    Don E. :)
