If I have system administrator rights, and I have changed the the view to show hidden files, and have unchecked protect OS files, why can't I access the System Volume Information folder? This problem just started. I have also noticed that my restore points are disappearing without any changes my me. I never have more the one day. My regedit settings look ok. Suggestions...

You might want try reinstalling the service by going to C:\WINDOWS\INF\sr.inf and right clicking it and selecting "Install. "

If that doesn't help, verify that you are virus and adware/malware free using the latest signatures. I'd suggest an on-line virus scan and then run AdAware for the other gremlins.

Then of course this may just be another manifestation of SP2. I have nothing specific on that but will look around later tonight.

    Hi bmartin,

To check a basic setting - how much room is allocated to SR?

My Computer > Properties > SR tab > settings: what's the %% and MB? Do you have more than one drive?

    Regards - Charles

Tony, I had already done your suggestion. I can see the hidden file and it's not protected, but I can't open it. It's strange I can see and access the other hidden or protected files.

Surfer, I have the Max. This is a new computer. I Stopped and restarted restore. I will wait until tomorrow and see how it's acting. If it's still acting up I will try your reinstall suggestion.

    Thanks

    XP Home or XP Pro?
There are several different sets of instructions on that ms article above.
Use the instructions for the system and setup you have. It works.

I know Tony. I did go into safe mode and change the view options there and guess what, that's right I can now see and open SVI folder. Whatever works. So far this morning my Restore file is holding...

Thanks for getting the brain working. It sometimes takes a little push...
