What's up, everybody? Hatto here. (Just the formalities)

    Anyway, the problem is:

Whenever I log on to MSN, I always make sure that I'm not keeping a history of what I say. But, even though I unchecked the box that says "Keep a history of conversations" or the sort, I see a "My Chat Logs" subfolder in the My Documents folder. What the *^&% us wrong?

    Hello Hatto-Sora,
    welcome to Windows BBS ...... :) ...... !

Some applications install their folders in My documents even if the user didn't ask for it.

Is there a contents in the folder or is it empty?

As far as I know, MSN Messenger does not use a folder called "My Chat Logs ".

MSN "history" is saved under My Documents \ My Received Files \ MSN ID \ History

I have that folder too. MSNM doesn't use it, but Messenger Plus does. Just stop MSNM from logging chats and then delete the folder.

Messenger Plus! installs as OPTIONAL, adware called C2Media which is also known as LOP.com. According to the Messenger Plus! folks, you can opt out of the extra stuff but not at all sure I trust any app that likes to stuff in lop.com.

OK for an expert to load the app maybe but most folks won't be. They do seem to be making Some attempts to actually warn you in language that you can understand about the little extras that can come to you compliments of Messenger Plus!.

The 'My Chat Logs' folder is definitely being created my Messenger Plus!

To disable it, open up the main MSN Messenger windows and click Plus! on the top toolbar (next to help) then select preferences. Then.....

    1. Click Logging in the left pane
    2. Then untick the box labeled 'Automatically log all my chats by default'
    3. Then click event logging at the top
    4. Untick 'Record all messenger events in a file
    5. Then click archiveing at the top
    6. Untick the two boxes 'Instant Messages' and 'Events'
    7. Click Apply and then OK, delete the My Chat Logs folder and it should never come back again!

    Hope this helps/works!
