I had very good luck with Webroot SPY SWEEPER for identifying and removing spyware. Norton and Trend Micro both seemed to work well for virus protection. Now I am trying to standardize on one program to do Virus protection, firewall, and spyware protection. So I have installed "Trend Micro PC-Cillin INternet Security 2005" on a couple machines. It is impressive, but it appears some spyware programs still slip by, as I find them later with Webroot Spy Sweeper. Anybody else find this true? TIA/ Greg.

Well, the problem is that what one app considers spyware, another one doesn't. It's pretty much all in the hands of those who are working on the program and what they determine to be spyware. I dont' think I've ever run two different spyware cleaners and not had one find something the other didn't. What are some of those that slipped by?

I don't remember now; when the other program (Spy Sweeper) located them, I just removed them. But what you say makes sense, so I will probably need to keep using 2 programs to get the big picture. Tnx. GG.

AdAware and SpybotS&D are also good spyware detectors and come in free versions, so no need to spend money on Trend Micro PC-Cillin INternet Security 2005.
But as Zander has said, they all catch a few that the other missed.

Thanks for the tip about the free spyware-stoppers. I have heard good things about AD-Aware. But I will still keep paying for an anti-virus program. I was just hoping to use one program for everything. Not so easy... :)

Greg Golden--Yes, I did not mean to imply that you do not need an AntiVirus program in addition to a spyware detector. They perform quite different functions. The main benefit to suites are that you can often get several programs cheaper than buying them separately. But they still are separate programs. Unfortunately, I am not sure there is any suite with AV and a spyware detector that is as good as a good AV program combined with AdAware or SpybotS&D.
