I have Windows XP Pro on my computer. I installed Service Pack 2 when it first came out, about a month after that my computer started booting to the logon screen and it says, "This products requires activation would you like to activate now?" or something to that effect. So I click yes, even though I had activated it pre-SP2. I figured I would just have to re-activate. However, when I click yes, it starts to log on, shows my wallpaper, and then a screen pops up that says, "Windows is already activated." I click OK since it is my only choice, thinking it would log on in. But no, after clicking OK, it goes back to the logon screen. If I click my user name type the pass to log on, the same thing happens. I restart and the same thing happens. I have about 60 GB of work-related and personal files that I am not readily-willing to part with. Is there any way to fix my activation problem?

System Information Reports that the Operating System is Pending Activation for Limited and Guest Users

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817025

    SYMPTOMS
Guest or Limited users who view the the System Information summary details may always see the Activation Status as "Activation pending (30 days remaining)" on systems that are already activated.

    CAUSE
Because only an Administrator can query the activation status, Limited or Guest users always receive the default 30-day grace period information.

    STATUS
    This behavior is by design.

that article is for a corrupted user profile....is that what i have? I think it is more of a wpa problem than a user profile problem...but i'll try. I can boot into safe mode as admin, but if I log in as admin or otherwise without safe mode, I get caught in this loop.

It was an alternative just in case it locks you out before you can fix it. It might be corrupted. Go to Start->Run and enter the following
oobe/msoobe /a and see if the system thinks you have activated.

Did you restore back to before you activated the last time?
I have looked and can't find your problem If you can make another profile and it works I wouldn't fret over it any longer.
Maybe someone else has the fix.

I finally fixed it. I got it to where I could boot into safe mode fine, then I just ran an activation fix.
