I'm running 98SE and every program that uses the internet crashes. I know it just affects the internet because when I stream media via Winamp, it crashes. Says there's an Internal Page Fault. IE, Mozilla, Netscape, etc. all do this. When I don't stream media via Winamp, just play MP3s from the HDD, it doesn't crash. I've recompiled the TCP/IP stack several times, but it still doesn't seem to do the trick. The network can be accessed. There's a corruped file, SOMEWHERE, but I just don't know which one. I've spoken with a tech. at work in regards to this, he's heard of it happeneing, but couldn't remember which file that gets corrupted that causes this.

Has anyone ever run into this? What did you do to solve it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried scanning for and removing spyware? That's the first thing to suspect when internet access starts getting problems.

    I recommend Spybot and Ad-Aware.

You might also want to try LSPFix.

Of course, since the computer probably can't download anything, either, you'll need to download and burn them to CD on another computer.

Ad-aware is run on occassion. The internet's not used much for pleasure. Mainly just to access the DB for clients (which is hosted on a server there), and stream CBC radio.

Haven't tried or even heard of this LSP-fix. You think it's probably an issue with winsock?

Oh, forgot about this. When I try to FTP somewhere, it will kick back saying "socketerror" address family not supported. It's not using IPv6, it's IPv4. Also, the display driver doesn't stick. It continuously reverts back to the old one after a reboot, not a big deal, but incredibly annoying.
