DNS in windows

    Friend of mine installed service pack 2 and now windows will NOT recognize any DNS names; things like yahoo.com are not reachable, yet the computer can ping any IP it wants? Anyone encountered this before?

    Yay for SP2.

    Have you tried turning off the firewall? control panel --> network connections --> right click on the device or connection you're using to connect to the internet --> advanced tab --> Settings button --> choose off.

    Or, try flushing the DNS in XP. start --> run --> command --> then type ipconfig /flushdns at the prompt.
