I am occasionally getting following window.
"An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel File C/WINDOWS/system 32/netsetup.cpl "
It does seem to affect anything that I know of and I close window and keep on going. Could anyone tell me what this might indicate and how I can correct ?

    Using Windows XP Home

Well let's do a quick check on the condition of that cpl...

From the startbutton run line type in netsetup.cpl and hit enter. Did the network setup wizard come up?

Okay then corrupted cpl is not the problem. Still looking for ya' and I found this although the poster never did come back with a follow up:

The reference is barried in this somewhere:
    http://www.24help.info/archive/t/165273-1.html

    Does this ring any bells?

    This:
    ipmon....
"Microsoft came thru with a solution via email. It seems
that at startup I was loading IPmon32 that apparently
caused the conflict. I disabled IPmon32 via msconfig and
do not have the netsetup.cpl error. "

    Hi Budo,

I'm not having much success at tracing this error back to something else other than what I've found already. The common factors seem to xpsp2 and Verizon's IPInSightMonitor a.k.a. ipmon32.exe. The netsetup.cpl nuisance seems to be a fairly new bug being suffered by others only after installing xp's sp2 update. There is not enough "reference to it" or "tech explanations of it ", for myself, to get a good grip on it. Most, with only a few exceptions, where able to stop this by stopping the ipmon32. This information apparently has made it around the web group circuit but originally came from a direct response from Microsoft Support. I will continue to pluck away at this and if I find something more concrete I will be sure to update this post. There was a vague mention about this problem and a possible "wireless network" change that sp2 makes. I haven't pursued this any further but may as time and curiosity permit. In turn, I hope you remember to keep this post updated with any progress you may make, either good or bad.

To sum up all references I found, had fixes that ran the gambit from deleting, moving or renaming netsetup.cpl or disabling ipmon32.exe from running as a startup to uninstalling the sp2 patch. The later being done because there where other software hardware problems that the user didn't foresee before updating. In the case of this patch it is best to read all you can find on what it is, what it does, the changes it makes, the software/hardware problems and incompatibilities, the devices and software that will no longer work after installing, work arounds for smoothing out any application problems you may run into etc etc. This is a BIG Time Major Update and is not be jumped into lightly.

As to the pxwma.dll.... :) Boy you sure know how to pick-'em... :)

Again not to much concrete on this bugger other than it will be related to either your cd/dvd rom drivers or any burning software that you may have. It may help to know these "particulars ". I can however point you to sites where you can download this dll, if that would help any. I did find a mention that this particular dll was only really needed if you have a habit or need to burn *.wma files or windows media file. I can't vouch for the truth in that, just passing along the info. This is not much comfort when you know, apparently, it should be there and is not.

Thanks for your reply and all the digging into this that you have done. :)

"Microsoft came thru with a solution via email. It seems
that at startup I was loading IPmon32 that apparently
caused the conflict. I disabled IPmon32 via msconfig and
do not have the netsetup.cpl error. "

Tried this and the result was I could not get a normal boot afterwards.

Any ideas on how this might affect the cd/dvd drivers ?

    Hi Jonny123

Actually I have not had the error message pop up lately. I believe it stopped showing up after I ran Norton Utilities and corrected some problems that showed up. Maybe one ot them was the one. I'd like to think that Utilities got rid of it.

Hey Budo...good to hear you at least got the problem resolved!

I only have Norton Antivirus installed on my computer, which probably won't do much good for this problem. I'll have to look into getting Norton Utilities...

Even though it's not a major concern, since the Control Panel still opperates fine, it'd be nice to clear up.

    Hi Jonny123

You are right it wasn't a major concern and although it didn't seem to affect the computer operation I was happy when the problem disappeared.
