When I try to save an image to gif format in image composer I get the following message "img file "C:temp\wwz1.TMP "is stored in an unsupported format or format variant" and I am unable to produce a gif image. Does anyone have any idea about how I can solve this problem.

    Thank you

    MS IC (image composer)

What ver: I-C ya using? The new 1.5 is out now. Are you click "save as" or "save selection as" a quote is copied below

After editing your piece in IC it is time to save your work. There are many options for saving in IC, but it is definitely important to know what each option offers and what each does not offer. With regard to file types, the "Save as..." dialog offers more file types than the "Save Selection As..." dialog (Figures 4 and 5). If you need to save the composition as a native .MIC file or as an Adobe PhotoShop .PSD file, then you will need to use the normal "Save as..." dialog.

If saving the file as a .MIC, this option will save the entire workspace "” everything in and out of the composition space, whether you can see it on screen or not. Also, any custom or imported palettes will be saved if using the .MIC format. But when saving in other standard formats such as GIF or JPG, then the composition will be cropped to only things visible in the composition area.

On the other hand, the "Save Selection As..." dialog has its own unique properties. It will allow you to save individual sprites without the large composition area's white space. Additionally, and new to version 1.5, you can select groups of sprites and save them without flattening them first.

    Hello

I guess this is what you need to solve this problem in the best way.I recommend you to download and install Irfan View which is an amazing graphic viewer & editor. It can handle all types of graphic files you need, including .GIF,of
course. You can see how many file formats it can
    handle,here where I put a few snapshots:

    http://www.geocities.com/best5ro/Irfan.html

After download it from this site:
    http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/english.htm
you can install it in a few minutes.
In its "Extensions" you just check the types you
wish Irfan to handle, choose an icon, click OK and
you're done.Your.GIFs will be at once associated with Irfan View(no need to restart your PC).
The *extensions need plugins which you can also download from:
    http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/english.htm

Irfan is also very small and free(for noncomercial use only).Know and enjoy Irfan View :)

Perhaps the problem seems to be the jpeg format you are working with:
    PROGRESSIVE JPEG image

    What is progressive JPEG?

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Progressive+JPEG+image&btnG=Google+Search

One of these google links should provide any further knowledge you wish to seek on the difference between regular jpeg and progressive jpeg format and perhaps offer an application or filter for working with the "Progressive" ones you seem to have.
